Lately there have been more online scam artists than ever before. And not just a scam here or a scam there. These people have been able to get multiple persons to send them goods. Sometimes in excess of 20 or more persons to send them high quality and expensive items within just a few days.
These con men spam several forums with usually the same type of ads selling and buying the same items on different posts. And they never have any references except from people who seem to just sign up around the same time they do.
Most of the time they never have a phone number thats not a cell phone or unlisted so their name doesnt come up on caller id etc. You can never seem to reach them when you want, they tend to get into contact with you.
They seem to come out of no where with tons of equipment at super low prices and no one has ever heard of them before.
Usually if a deal seems to good to be true then it probably is. Why would someone you ont even know, make a deal with you to trade or sell you something which he could very very easily get 30-40-50% more?
When one is making a transaction these things "should" throw up a red flag of suspision.
1. Member is selling 30 items in the same week he logged on 2. member aviods any questions abotu where the items came from 3. the meber doesnt really seem to know what the aspects of the items are he is selling or trading 4. the member has no references 5. the meber has references but all are from people who signed up in the same week he did 6. member is selling the same item to 3-4 other people as you but in his post he said he only had 1. 7. PO BOX address 8. Wants the item held for pickup 9. will not accept any form of payment that identifies himself. 10. is selling items not yet released to the general public. 11. is selling items for 50% less than the current value. 12. will trade you for something worth half of the value of what he is trading. 13. will only accept it if you send it overnight (because to scam a lot of people you have to get it all before the first few people can spread the word they got scammed) 14. Will not ship first OR use any type of semi secure service like escrow etc.
when you are making a transaction you have to think about why the person is doing what they are doing. Why wont he use escrow of any kind? Why wont he give me his home address? why wont he provide any references or answer any identifying questions about himself?
Under normal situations, to save a few bucks most people would not take the risk. but when the savings are possibly $100-$200-$300 dollars it seems several people do not care the risk because they are blinded by the potential gains.
1. no one in their right mind is going to send you DD 9515s brand new because they dont like the way they look and all you have to do is pay shipping
2. no one is going to send you 6 hcca 12s brand new in box, for 2 used hcca 15s
3. no one is going to send you an indash dvd player with a 7" screen, 2 1000 watt high quality amps, 2 high quality comp sets, and 4 500 watt high quality subs for $500 shipped. If the online price is $3000 and its for sale for $500, you might want to take that with a grain of salt.
4. No one is going to sell you brand new amps that have a dealer cost of $900 for $400 shipped when the going price on them used is more than that.
SOmetimes people get into a bind and and need money and will sell things at a great loss. but if you dont know that person how do you know if its the truth?
If someone makes a post saying they got into a car wreck and they want to sell their system which consists of thousands of dollars of brand new equipment, and they want $200 overnight money order, it could be a scam.
So really just ask yourself, is the risk of losing what im sending, worth what i would gain?
I just read this post and the first thing that came to mind was I have alot of Orion equipment I am selling for a distributor. I expect their to be more from other manufacture in the future.
I had a person ask me about escrow. I know what an escrow account is when it comes to a mortgage payment. I would like to understand this a little further to be able to offer different payment options on the products I have listed. I currently can accept PayPal, and certified check.
Let me know some details about this when you have a chance. The last thing I want is someone to feel uncomfortable about dealing with me.
Over the past year I have sold through this forum
4 Treo CSX 18's 2 DD 9515's 12 Interstate Workaholics 17 Crossfire CFA1000d's (in 24hours) 4 US 2000x's and others if I think longer.
I feel it works great and would like to continue the trend.

Ok here is how an escrow works, It involves 2 parties and a trusted neutral 3rd party.
ok A. you are trading an item.
if this is the case you can 1. send me the item, I test it and photo it (www.audioflux.com/escrow), I tell them everything checks out and let them see the pictures on that site. then they send you your item, when you get it you can tell me it checks out ok and I send them theirs.
2. they send me the item, I test it and photo it (www.audioflux.com/escrow), I let you know everything checks out and let you see the pictures on that site. then you send them your item, when they get it they can tell me it checks out ok and I send you the item.
3. you both send me the items, I photo and test them both, photo them let you both see the items, when everyone says its ok, I ship each party their items.
B. you are selling an item.
you can 1. send me the item test photo etc, show them, then they send you the money, you get the money, I send the item to them 2. they send me the money, you send them the item, they get it make sure its ok, then I send you the money 3. you send me the item they send me the money, I test it, photo it, they say its ok, then I send you the money and them the meter

Sounds good to me. I think this would work. Obviously their are shipping costs that would be addition to ship to you and then to the buy. But this gives a safer insurance.

Ceed, You missed one. The typical one is "I can get anything you want" type of post with an "email me for prices" thrown in. That way, instead of hooking the suckers with a "Arc 2500 for $300" post, he can get all the suckers at one shot (hell, sometimes they jump into the boat for him).
The odds are, nobody can get you everything. Keep that in mind. Usually, a deal is a deal only if you get the stuff. I have avoided for the most part buying stuff unless I have a legit address (here that hotmailers?).
