Not too bad. You either have to run another ignition wire for the harness or remember to cut the radio off whenever turning the car off. SPeakers are no biggie.. Use the new double din GM kit and the new harness.

The hardest thing is the radio. You have to remove the entire dash cover to get it off. Takes me about 3-5 minutes to do nowadyas, took me about 1 hour the first time I did one. Was by myself though.

The backseats have to come out to gain access to the rear speakers. Other than that, they're not that bad. And Buzz is correct. On some of the newer GM's, you have to run a ign wire from the Ignition harness. Just find the big pink wire and you'll be good.

After you take out the dash, I know with my 2000 cavalier and the kit they used, they still had to cut out a big piece of plastic inside the dash, to get the radio to fit in properly. You will have to take out the screw in the vent, in the sides of the dash and in the glove box. They are all circle screws, besides the one in the dash which is a regular screw I believe 9/16???

For some reason the first time my radio was installed, the head unit shut off by itself w/out running the ingition wire..... later on it was reinstalled to make it fit flush mount (i.e...... cut out that big plastic piece in the back) and then we had to run the ignition wire.

well, i have heard about some of the cavaliers having no power locks, no dingers, and the possibility of the airbags not working if you take out that radio, and i guess there was a harness that metra makes to bypass this in the deck, so you can keep it all, and no worries with air bags etc. ? i am just worried, cause the one girl has a 01 Z24.. and, my local shop said since she had the cd player, just to run line level convertors, then get an audiocontrol Overdrive, so boost signal voltage, which is no big deal... but if we can get a deck in there, thats what she wanted..

anyone know the metra turbo kit p/n? or of this harness i am talking of?

Putting decks in these poses no problem
You will lose the door dinger, and the delayed exit feature (when you turn off the car, accys. stay on, tik you open the door).
You have to run a new switched wire to the deck. Ive done two of them, and used the accy wire from the ignition harness (put a fuse on it!)
Find it in a HUGE loom of wire near the firewall, near the floorboard, going through the firewall. I believe it was an orange wire, IIRC.

The kit looks amazing, without having to cut anything out (Iggy, did you try it with just the kit.. i think it looks pretty close to perfect.)

have fun

Well when my deck was installed, it was the places first time doing work on a 2000 cavalier...... and they did not have the new kits. They used the 99 Cavalier Kit, that is why they had to cut

Iggy,

The new kit won't work with your excelon radio, so stick to the one your got. The new kit is actually an ISO mount and it looks awesome, but the kenwoods won't fit in there.

Wont fit.. what is this term.. I do not understand this term. Can someone explain to me what "wont fit" means?

Heheheh

I dont know Kenwood, so I dont know if theyll work or not.. I dont understand why not, are Kenwoods not ISO compatible by some stretch of reason??

I Know we have one of the harnesses to relocate the factory radio into the trunk, this way you dont lose the dinger and some computer functions. BUt the damn thing cost like 50 bucks

If I remember correctly many of those godawful kenwoods with the flip faces dont have adequate iso din mounting provisions on the side of the radio case and will stick if you do manage to get one in but a side screw is too tight..

I did end up crushing the sides of one of my old exceleons, trying to fit it in. It is a very tight fit. Had to get it sent it....... they wouldn't cover it said it was my fault when CC did the install.... but the customer service manager replaced it for me no problem.

Not with the metra kit, did you?

I tried the 99-3301 with the excelon and it didn't fit up in it right.

What kit did you use?

Yep. Used the Metra kit. It wasnt a revolving faceplate unit, but a Excelon unit for sure. Just a little fanagling with harnesses and placement of cables and everything will get in there. Just takes time...

so does anyone know the part number for the harness? or if they make a box or something to keep the dingers, and locks etc? i heard a rumor someone did.. but i ain' sure what the part number is, because one of these cars i am doing is a Z24, the other is a base. the Z24 is loaded.. the base isn't.. so with the Z i could pry run line levels, and an Overdrive, but i would rather do a deck. any help?

You want my advice on it, dont worry about relocating the stupid thing. Not worth the extra expense, IMO

You will lose your dinger (who here HASNT wished that damn thing would shut up?) and youll lose the delayed exit feature.
