i wanted to know how the load that presented to a passive crossover affeects it?

specifically, i ahve the diamond hex stuff, if the tweeter was replaced and went from a 4 ohm to an 8 ohm would this effect the frequency cutoffs or just overall output levels?

any information would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
KC

Output - I'm not really sure. I guess 'cause it's twice the resistance half the volume. But I do know that changing the resistance of the speaker will affect the crossover point. I was playing around w/a crossover design program just a second ago.

With a 4ohm load, 18db/octave h.p. crossover set at 200hz, if you change the resistance to 8ohms the crossover point drops to about 100hz.

Also the program won't let me enter exact inductor and capictor values. So I had to play around w/the cutoff frequency until I got the capacitor values the same. Unfortunatly the inductor values weren't the same. In fact they were drastically different. (on the order of 6mH difference)

Hope some of that garble helped,
Steve

Yota is right, the crossover point will go down one octave when you double the resistance.
Your output level will depend on the sensitivity of the tweeters.
If there are things like Zobel networks and tweeter attenuation circuits in the passives it could have worse consequences than just the crossover point.
