When I hook up my Maxx-Link it sends out a constant tone. This is with the engine off and HU volume on 0. I've made sure the built-in test tone is off. All settings are all the way down. Also when unplugging my rcas from the Maxx-Link one of the "A" connections pulled out of the Maxx-Link. I reinstalled it this afternoon using "B" and "C" strapped and unstapped and its still the same thing. Any ideas?

what output of the radio are you using?

And what kind of ground do you have?

Sounds like either the maxxlink is using the rcas as ground. Does the test tone still come on when you flick the switch? Does it sound like a 65 hz tone? Maxxlink set to master? kink in the cable to the remote?

Try unplugging everything, including the remote and rcas. You said its with the engine off? Is your battery voltage adequate?

Try hooking up one rca at a time and see if it starts with just one output or wire...just basic troubleshooting if you havn't already done it.

Sounds like a ground problem IMO

My HU is a lower level Clarion. It only has one rca ouput. The grounds are good. When I flip the 65hz tone switch the frequency changes. It is set to Master. The remote knob is not hooked up at all so no kink in the cable. All testing was with the engine off. If it wasn't for that I would think it was amplified engine noise. Battery voltage is more than adequate.

if you go straight from the radio, without the maxxlink, the noise is gone correct?

what we have seen is that if you do not use the same ground you will make a ground loop. the head unit and amps and maxlink need the same grounding point. just depends on the car to. sometimes it happens in one car and not another.

This noise only happens with the Maxx-Link installed. Everything shares the same grounding points except the HU. The power/ground/remote wires for the Maxx-Link were connected at the inputs for my Sundown 100.2. I'm going to try a different ground location for the HU and see what happens.

My setup is a Clarion HU, Sundown 100.2 powering some RF Power 6.5" coaxials, and a pair of strapped Sundown saz-1500s powering a pair of Sundown NightShade 15s.

All my stuff is out of my truck right now & I'm going out of town this weekend so I won't be able to trouble shoot this anymore until next week. I'm gonna trying connecting my HU in the back along with everything else and see what happens.

perhaps try getting power for the maxxlink from the battery instead of hooking into the 100.2

I believe the maxxlnk instructions says to put the gain on the amplifier to max then control the gain with the maxxlink

no they don't nick. they say to start about halfway. or measured to about 5-6volts output with no subs attached. then to adjust on the maxxlink. then readjust and gain match the amps at a higher or lower level if needed.

I've got a question on the Maxx-link - thought I'd just throw it in here rather than start another new thread....got the Maxxlink with (2) Memphis 4kw's - instead of using y-splitter, couldn't you just use +A & +B to one amp and -A & -B to the other amp? Just looking to clean up the wiring a bit....thanx!

Are you strapping your amps? If your not strapping. you will need the Y splitters and use the + row NOT THE -row!

The negative row has to be used when amps are strapped.
