It isn't as quiet as I thought, with the EQ engaged there's noticeable hiss but doesn't change with the volume, and with the EQ disengaged the hiss is much quieter but it is still there. Hiss is present no matter what the source is but everything else works fine.
Is something not right here? The wire harness doesn't have any noise filters or fuses, I'm guessing it's either built-in or the previous owner cut it off.

have you tried a ground loop isolaotor. the eq may just be amping the signal making the hiss louder.could be alot of things but ground isolotors are cheap.

retune your gain structures..that eq is going to put out more voltage, raising the noise floor but allowing you to lower your gains..did you notice that the eq tends to make things louder overall? drop amp levels back..and watch your hiss disapear..p.s this aint a ground loop at all.

I meant with the EQ turned off, just straight preamp. Yeah it's strange because it's dead quiet if the amp is on and the preamp is off, so the hiss is coming from the preamp. I'll check the gain tomorrow.
btw does anyone know what voltage this thing outputs at? I'm guessing 4v?
