I'm working on setting the gains on my amplifiers and I don't have an oscilloscope. I've seen some amplifiers (Soundstream, MB Quart, JBL) and signal processors (e.g. Audiocontrol, Memphis) that have an LED that lights up when the signal clips.

What would I need to make one of these LED clipping indicators myself to use on my MTX amplifiers? Has anyone done this before?

Gains can be matched with a multi-meter. [Smile]

If you run a solid tone then meter the rail voltage at the terminals it will give you a readout. You can match all of your amps this way.

As far as keeping it from clipping...be reasonable with the settings and you'll be alright. See how high the rail voltage goes and back down a bit you should be fine.

DMM's are helpful in this case if you don't have an os-scope. [Smile]

sorry I couldn't answer your direct question lol.

edit: it connects to the amps voltage rails though, so you'd have to pull the amp apart... [Razz]
