SO i bought some CDT CL series components for my doors with very high hopes.
Well the speakers are supreme and are wonderful.....at low volumes.
I fiddled with every single control option and gain setting, sill the highs were very distored at about 1/2 volume. The tweeter cuts out and the mid is muddy.
I have yet to try a friends amp but i would like to.
Is it that the cdt's are not made for loud music???? Surely they are with a 80 watt rms ratting.
The amp in question is the mtx 202,i know its bottoom line but i always thought MTX was a good amp?? I have a US acoustics amp on my sub and it never distorts..
Should i go buy a new amp and see how it goes or????
Also the tweeter only cuts out at high volumes,is there any way to stop this???? Is it getting to much distortion/power or is it set up wrong???
Thanks for your help
Robert

If its cutting out, have you checked all your connections?
As for them sounding muddy, are you clipping the amp possibly, maybe check settings on the deck.
All else fails get an amp and test to see how it sounds then.
Hope this helps some.

Yeah you are underpowering them. I always try to get an amp that is at least the rms wattage or up to 20% more than the speakers. For instance I would get an amp that is between 80 and 100 watts for those comps.

Get an MTX 342....$60-70 shipped for a refurb from thestereodirect. Comes with birth sheet and it will definitely put out the kinda power you're looking for!
I just got a 342 last week for my friend and the birth sheet showed 324w RMS @ 12.5v! And yet it is only rated at 240w. That puts it at 81w x 2 @ 4ohms @ 12.5v actual power whereas it's only rated at 60w x 2 @ 4ohms @ 12.5v!... And if it puts out 324w @ 12.5v, then it will put out 424w @ 14.4v (rated at 340w @ 14.4v) which means it'll do 106w x 2 @4ohms @ 14.4v.....not bad for $60-70
Also, the THD was a mere .032%! And I saw 1 other 342 birth sheet on ebay, that showed 316w @ 12.5v and .023% THD.

I don't know if you have the space for this but I recommend it!PPI 125w X 2ch http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/2663 If not they also have some nice Kicker and Kenwood amps that will easily power those comps for $200 or less.

http://www.thestereodirect.com Interesting, website shows nothing stereo related. Do a search see what you can find. Also the 6304 from MTX will put out some watts too. And I happen to own one.
