I've got a question. I am planning my new system for my new vehicle (when I get it). I've almost got all of my new components in, but just getting the last few chosen and ordered. I'm down to the head unit and signal processor(s). I'm eyeing the Alpine CDA-7892 head unit. It has it's own Digital Time Correction mode(s) as well as "Media Xpander," which seems to adjust settings to mimic clarity according to the media type (Radio, CD, Mp3, etc.). This head unit also has it's own crossover.
I'm also eyeing another piece from AudioControl called the HPX. It is an in-dash crossover/processor which has a "High Definition Expansion Circuit" which "compensates for speaker locations and compression technologies like MP3." It supposedly makes your soundstage wider/deeper, even when your speakers are mounted in crappy door locations.
Further, I already have an AudioControl EQS Equilizer that I will be using for sure.
I will more than likely get that head unit (instead of using the stock one heh).
So here's the actual question(s): Do I need the Audiocontrol HPX? Or would it just be repetitive if I already had the head unit with the same (?) features? Would the HPX add more depth/width than the head unit possibly could to my soundstage (yes, I will be using the crappy door locations)? At around $200, I don't want to purchase the HPX if it's only value in my signal chain (behind the head unit) will be decoration, and extra buttons...
Thanks for taking the time to help me =).
