well, I just picked up an alpine 7802 to put in my car when I sell it and I was having an unusual problem......It won't play some cds, but the ones it will play, it will only play about 1-2 miuntes of music then it will cut out, and you can hear the laser doing something in the unit. then, sometimes, about a minute or so later, it will come back on for another minute or so. it's just been sitting for quite some time now so dust may have gotten to it, but my guess is the laser would need to be re-aligned, but would that cause it to do what I'm describing?

also, if anyone's familiar with this unit....was it the model below the 7909? it says it's got an 18 bit d/a converter.....

anyways.....thanks for the help in advance

well, I'm thinking its a combo of dust and age.....over the past few days it's gotten better and better, starting to play more and more of my cds, not cutting out as much, and if so, for only 1-10 seconds.

I'm imagining that being appoximatly a ten year old cd player, it probably will need the lens cleaned and realigned.....now my question is how much does it cost and where can it be done?

The model below the 7909 ws the 7907 but it didn't share much with the 7909... The 7909 was a very inique piece then, incorporating a lot of features many CD players did not come with such as changer control, a clock (on a pullout deck!), the fancy D/As, and defeatable tone controls.
