i can verify the eclipse deck for i own the 55040 and they are 8v's but i want to say few years back kenwood had a very specialized deck that was 12 v preout, i could be wrong though. but 8v is pretty much the highest around now.

The balanced output of the 8061 (and the older Rockford 8140, for that matter) are 16v. The unbalanced of these units, as well as the denon, and the McIntosh mx-406 are 8v. Note, most of these preamps can do their respective voltages with little distortion.
Once you have over 4v, you're in the clear.

Clarion made a 9v deck and it was used for sq. The deck was tested and made 9v clean power. In regards to the deck that Kenwood made it was the KDC 909 exlon. IT made 8v but was not as clean as the clarion.

I wouldn't suggest buying a HU based around pre-out voltage. I'd say pick out a HU that you like the best overall. If it has a high pre-out, great! If it doesn't, get a line driver.

I agree, somewhat. I think output voltage is a factor, but it is by no means the only factor. If the voltage is high enough, you won't have to pay extra for the line driver.

I can vouge for you on that one, it was the 9255, I still have mine and am very happy with it, the only thing was that is is pretty much a sound quality player as far as I am concerned. You will find no bells or whistles on that player. But yes it has clean output none that less.

I have one of the older 8140s and they will do 17 volts balanced and 8.5 volts unbalanced.

Granted, you have to turn the deck wide open and turn the bass and treble all the way up to get that kind of voltage (you did with the 9255)...so it isn't a real world number...
I measured my old 55060...it never got close to 8 volts...
