My system.....BARELY FRIGGIN INSTALLED at this point still. Ive had the audio equipment for over a month now. But Anyways Alpine 9835 has a 2-way / 3 way switch. I am running Canton QS 2.16 comp set, Peerless CSX-C 4 ohm 8 inch midbass drivers. So today is the "big day" well yesterday was to finish my stereo (yeah uh not even close to being finished). So the kick panels are in and working, infinity referance rear fill is in and working. We switch it to 3-way mode and we lose all rear fill / fader capabilities. The only way to for me to get rear speakers is to turn the Internal Amp on, but get this, when I turn the internal amp on, my front stage turns off. Can some alpine owners help me out DAMNIT all i want is a 9835 , canton comp set in kick panels, 8in peerless in door, 2 12's in a sealed box, and a nice lookin trunk. WHY IN THE HELL DOES MY INSTALLER NEED 100 MAN HOURS TO FRIGGIN INSTALL THIS?
Im ranting because im very upset because its been a month now....a month of thousands of dollars of car audio sitting around, and all I have to show for it is a flashy deck, xm radio, some not even painted kick panels, and rear fill, oh yeah rear fill that dont even work..
Im getting less patient by the day and Im just about ready to say FVCK THIS I WILL DO IT MYSELF, I DONT CARE IF ITS MORE GHETTO THEN YOURS, ATLEAST IT WILL BE INSTALLED BY THE END OF FRIGGIN SUMMER.
Sorry to rant heres problem again Front stage in 3-way mode, no rear fill Front stage in 3-way mode, turn the internal amp on / off, rear fill works but I still have no fader controls. Whatthe hell is wrong with my stereo?
My car seems be to one problem after another, an then i gotta wait for my friend to not be working and chilling with his girlfriend or doin other car stereo work to work on my car. So I drive all the way out to his crib, and we just make NO PROGRESS. Like progress is supposed to be made, but a lil minor glitch or something just screws it all up and now I have to sit and wait.

well, i think it would help to know how the speakers are connected to the ehadunit. in 3 way mode, it would seem that the high output of the HU goes to the tweeter amp, the mid to the midrange amp, and the sub out goes to the subwoofer amp. that does not leave an output for the rear fill (which i would get rid of anyway). so it is no surprise that the rears might not be working with the unit set to 3 way. but we really need a lot more details on what is connected to what before we can help ... i have a 9835 and i am not having any problems. but the installer reallllly should know better. this is not a problem that should take more than a few minutes to solve.

Vactor is correct. I own a 9835 and 3-way mode is not to be used for rear fill application, but for sub amps, midrange amps, and high frequency (tweeter) amps. If you are determined to have rear fill and separately crossover the 8's, you will have to run the HU in 2-way mode. Simply put an amp with an adjustable subsonic filter on the 8's, activate the subsonic filter, adjust filter to filter around 55 Hz and below then set the low-pass filter to it's highest point. You are theoretically creating a bandpass filter between 55Hz. and 250Hz for instance. I have a bandpass setup in my hearse on my 12" subs that are in a console up front and also on my 8" midbass that are in my kicks and it works great. I let the 12's play down to 40Hz. and my 15's (12) handle 20Hz-60Hz. All of the above speakers run off 4 amplifiers and are connected to the sub out on the head unit. I still am able to use front and rear off the head unit to control my components that are connected to their own amplifers. Just for kicks, I was able to achieve a almost perfect flat curve on my SA-3055 (yes it sounded terrible with flat curve). I just wanted to prove to myself that I had designed a system that would impress the old school judges. Back in the day, the flatter your curve, the more points you received. I remember when both SPL and SQ had a maximum 30 points each. Anyway, that clues you into my age and that is my put-to-use opinion on the CDA-9835 when used with multiple amplifiers and speakers. This method does not make the best use of the crossover capabilities of the 9835. Just make sure that you have amplifiers with good crossover networks in them and a subsonic filter on the amplifier that will be used to drive the 8" speakers. The EQ alone on this head unit makes it worthwhile to own. In my other vehicle which also uses a 9835, I simply use a SQ-4150, and a D2000.1 to run all of my speakers (a Magma 15, Multi-Sync 6.5's in the kicks, Mutli-Sync 5.25's in modified Bose enclosures in the doors and rear fill. System is in a 93 Twin Turbo 300Zx. I utilize the full crossover capabilities of the head unit and it does a great job.
