This guy has a Sony cd player, he posted on another web board about it. He said it all comes on and he can go through all of the functions of the radio but no sound. What could be causing this ?

I had the same problem... For me it was the wiring harness... The harness did not have all the connections it needed. So I could turn it on but nothin.. That is just what I think..

blown mosfet (internal amp), the cost about 50 buck and its fine sodering work, i would personally start looking into new decks,
