im wondering what the differences are between these decks and which would be a better setup . i just went to my local dealer today and was quoted $550 for the 8053 and $350 for the 5442 . he also said that he would sell the 21000 8 band eq for $150 . so basically im concidering spending $550 for the 8053 or $500 for the 5442 and 8 band eq . last time i checke the eclipse website didnt have the new 8053 up yet . if the 8053 has some sort of eq allready built in i think i might rather do that just to keep things simpler . so if anyone can let me know what the differences between the two decks are ide appreciate it . thanks alot .

Well, the other thread "check out the 2003 Eclipses" that you replied to has the specs on the cd8053(first post), and Eclipse's website has the specs on the cd5442. IT basically comes down to:
8053 has balanced line outs, time alignment, adjustable crossovers, new display and an eq and costs 550.
the 5442 has 5 volt outs, no time alignment, crossovers(but not adjustable), bass/treble/mid adjustment, but $350 is a great price on that.

hey thanks for the help . im wondering what you mean by not adjustable crossovers on the 5442 though . does this mean the slope isnt adjustable or the crossover point isnt adjustable ? as long as i can choose the crossover points from whats selected on the deck thats fine . like if the deck has 80 hz , 120 hz or 200 hz for high pass lets say . and also has some to choose from for the sub as well . thanks for any more help .

The Crossover point is fixed(as is the slope) on the CD5442. Personally, I don't even use the Xovers on my deck(use the xovers that came with my components and the one on the sub amp for the sub). The Xovers on the amps are better quality than those in decks anyway.

sorry to keep nagging , but will it do what i want then . if it only has 1 crossover point for the hp and lp then ide get the 8053 . i just dont want the crossover points on the 5442 to be like many of the active crossovers like audiocontrol where you only get one choice where it is set at . thanks .

I would still use the crossovers in an amp ahead of any xovers in a head unit(i wouldn't place much emphasis on what type of xover my head unit had I guess considering there are better xovers in the same setup(amp or even the passive xover that comes with components in some cases). You could save some $$ by going with the 8052(and hell, even save the extra cash and buy a nice eq with the flexibility you want. That all being said, i am gonna sell my eclipse cd8051 and get the 8053, but it has nothing to do with the xovers.

ok thanks alot . only thing that sucks with buying an eq is i dont have enough money now for most outboard eq's and the dash mounted ones will be a pain to get to since the cup holder is in the way in my civic . i think the 21000 eq has a master volume control and if it does im not sure if i could still use the hu's volume control . so everytime i wanted to turn the music up or down or mess with the eq ide have to go around the cup holder , which may not be pleasent when im driving . thats why i wanted the eq in the deck . thanks for your help . im pretty sure im going with eclipse , i just have to sort out the pros and cons . thanks .
