I remember a time one evening after I finished a long install, one of the salesmen pulled up with a Safari van. He was having problems with a new system he sold, and "personally installed". The problem was that although the system sounded ok at low levels, the subs "cracked" when driven at moderate levels, and there was no deep bass. He checked his components, and wiring, exchanged almost every component, but couldn't find the problem. A simple 12dB/Oct. X/O was used, and placed in the custom cabinet. When I removed the speaker I found the X/O 1 inch from the woofer's gigantic magnet. The magnetic inter-action was cancelling the woofers. The offending X/O was relocated and all was fantastically well.
