Yeah...you are gonna need 2 valid keys to greate a 3rd/use immobilizers. Is this a customers car? If so a trip to the dealer may be warranted. Or give these guys a ring. They may be able to help you out. If all else fails, put the coded key in a 556UW or like part and use a plain cut key-car will have to be remote started always, though I don't advise it. I wish you luck.

if I had 2 keys that no problem, I already have a account with howards. The problem is the customer only has 1 key. looks like she will be going to the stealership for another key. i never put a cut key in a bypass module. always a un cut key for safety

Some of you may not know I am a locksmith. I have been for well over 20 years. As for the transponder system on the Explorer, you will most likely need to have an addition key made, and programmed using a NGS tool. You would be doing your customer a favor by sending them to a locksmith instead of the dealer though. As long as the locksmith has a programmer tool, such as the NGS. BTW - NGS = New Generation Star tester. This is the company that makes the scan tool for Ford. http://www.hickok-inc.com/
Their are other tools that will program Ford keys though.
ALSO, as far as adding a key with only one, this can be done if you have a "clone" machine, and a keyblank that is made special for cloning. We do not do the Fords this way here at our locksmith shop, but I know some locksmiths do.
Either way it's always BAD for ANYONE to have only one key for a vehicle, so do the right thing, and contact a local locksmith that has the capability to do Ford x-ponder keys, and send your customer to them.

If a customer brought the vehicle to our shop, we would charge 40 for the key, and 40 for the programming. 80 TOTAL. Our customers tell us the dealers want 125 - 150 for a duplicate key programmed. Remember, when you call the dealer for a price, ask if the price includes programming the key. The price you get from the parts department may not include programming, which is usually done at the service department.

Yeah sad but true. You would not imagine how many customers I see daily who want remote starts installed on immobilizer cars who only recieved one key when they purchased the car!! The avg consumer has no idea the keys with programing can be up there in price and its kinda hard to go back to the dealer months or years after the purchase and ask for a replacement.
