I had the viper 791 in my last car and the top of the line autostart in my new one.. Both $500-600 .. I like the autostats range ( unbelievable) and to me the sensors are pretty close.. The AS's display is a little nicer too .. Both very good

Install's everything - get one that does what you want. The audiovox's used to have a clock on the lcd remote, I liked that. We carry Python - I've got the 881, rem start, alarm, keyless, and it rocks. Figure out exaclty what you want it to do before you put it in - burp your system, turn on your headlights, turn off your sub, open your trunk, air horns, prox, etc.

install is key... ive got an ancient viper 600 that has so much work put into it that i would put it against any new alarm on the market... only because of the time and effort put into it...

on my most recent install i spent about 200hours on the install alone... simple valet 563t...

it is all about the install... if someone manages to get anything out of my truck at this point, i would shake their hand and congratulate them... if someone manages to bypass the alarm on my crx and actually finds the damn thing and gets to it they will be greeted my a steel plate congratulating them on their hard work...

viper, python, autostart, compustar... so long as it is reliable, the install is all that matters...

So? They still have to be proficient with the weapon to actually use it effectively and 99.99% of the civilian population really isn't proficient with ANY firearm. Hell for that matter most (but not all) of the military and police aren't very good.

Not that deadly force would really be needed anyhow...

I agree with Stephen's (Regal) comments - all in how you put it in! Soon my truck will be getting a python 881xp as well. [Smile] That is unless I buy a different SPL vehicle.... [Wink]

Now that I think about it, the intent of this question is "How do I make sure my audio investment is safe?"

1. Do NOT advertise the system. Do not brag about your system, do not demo the system to random strangers who will take your tag info down and figure out where you live.

2. Do NOT quad out when arriving at school or college. If so you are just letting everyone know that you are leaving thousands of dollars in your truck alone for hours on end. And now would be a prime time to break into your car

3. TINT! 5% or darker - out of sight out of mind. If the cops are real board and want to nitpick everyone's tint, find a way to COMPLETELY hide the system including the deck.

4. Make sure your trusted friends keep their mouths SHUT with concern to your system. If there is one thing I absolutely HATE at work, it's demoing my truck to random strangers. All courtesy of my idiot coworkers blabbering about my system in a feeble attempt at a sale....

5. Always park where you can SEE your vehicle, park it in a HIGH traffic area and in the light. This way everyone can see your vehicle at all times - this will really deter theives as well.

6. NO AUDIO STICKERS!

7. No quadding out inside of 1 mile of your residence or entrance to your neighborhood, whichever is farther.

Remember the less people that KNOW about your system, the BETTER off you are!
