that doesnt answer the question i asked. either your just wrappring the wire around or your using scotch locks with both might give you a good connection at the time of install but will come loose over time. i know best buy doesnt solder their remote starters because they just dont care they get so much business that all they care about is getting as many starters installed as possible. understandable i guess if your just installing just to make money.
Kinda a broad statement there eh? I can agree with the benefits of soldering... but to be honest...how many of us really know the proper way to solder? Yes soldering is the best connection (mechanical and electrical)... but there is a great difference between the work ethic of a 19 year old and a 40 year old. Its all about the installation. This part can make or break a system..you know that. Tape and twist can work...and be a very reliable connection if its done properly (think old Code Alarm training). And none of my cars have come back with issues...while i can't say the same about my co-workers. I guess this is to be expected when the internet can make you an 'expert' overnite.
24 years of experience and counting... (I'm really getting to old for this..)

Well, back on track, I have the starter installed and working. The only thing that sucks is that Hyundai didn't make it possible for the alarm to be armed and disarmed with an aftermarket remote. I was looking forward to being able to use just the Valet remote, but it will only lock and unlock the doors, but will not operate the actual alarm. Other than that, it's a great system so far and the range so far meets my demand! Thanks for all the help guys!
Also, as for the soldering, I only soldered the heavy gauge wires that were tapped into the ignition harness. I used t-taps for all the really small guage wire which is neater in my opinion and a lot less critical.

not really. i almost got a job at best buy but turned it down after they said "we think a good crimp connection is just fine" haha id rather not do things that way. you can do things how you want. im not going to tell you how to do your job. i cant tell an old-timer how to install ive only been a certified installer for less than 2 years but i know that i will never intall a remote starter without soldering. your right not everyone knows how to solder or to do quality work but i guarantee that your twist and tape(laughing inside) will fail before my twist, solder and tape does. i didnt get my knowledge from the internet i gratuated fro RITOP school of mobile electronics. so i beleive i have up-to-date knowledge of a proper remote starter install which i feel is very important. AT LEAST solder the main ignition harness!
