on my 98 chevy truck the door trigger is tripping all the time for no reason. I am really paranoid about break-ins after my last car being hit, so just leaving it off isnt an option. It wouldnt be a big deal if I didnt have a pager, but it goes off during the night, and of course I've got to go check it out to find out if its getting broken into. Anyone have any ideas what might be causing this?

Is it happening all the time no matter what? You need to find out if it is making the domelight kick on.
If it is then you got to find out what pin is going bad.
If it doesnt kick it on then you can make the door pins kick on a relay. So it actully needs to turn on to trigger it.
Some alarms only need a faint signal to trigger. So when it is running a relay it needs more so it should stop any faulses.

The problem is that it just triggers randomly, for no apparent reason. My dome light isnt connected to the alarm, so I cant imagine it coming on. I have had the alarm on the truck for almost 2 years, and as far as I know, it just started doing this last night.

probably just a bad door pin. my does the oposite.... doesnt go off when it should. just wiggle around the door pins both doors and see if it does anything.

everytime ive removed one of these pins they basicaly fall apart!!!!!! insides are probably just falling apart and making contact.
ive been told they are preaty cheap to replace, but i typicaly have my dome light turned off so it doesnt matter to much. i figure with my door handles shaved i just have to worry about breaking glass sensor.LOL

Your dome light isnt connected? It has to be in order for it to trigger when someone opens the door. Alot of newer trucks have the pin switches built into the latch assembly inside the doors. Others got them in the dash sides where the door contacts them. To figure out what is tripping it unplug them from the alarm to make sure it is the doors triggering it. If it stops you know it is in the vehicle and not the system.
Then hook up the connection. Unplug one pin switch at a time. Start with most used one...driver door. If it doesnt trigger after that one is unplugged then that is the problem.

^ as said above it has to be tied into the dome light, that is what the factory pin is for. maybe the wire is getting pinched and seeing ground. that would be my first check. also spray the pin with wd-40...SPLaudio

Just a lime here, but could it be that when he turns of the truck and takes out the keys the doom light comes on.So when he arms it and walks in the house it already thinks a door is open so it just goes off.

Also if that would be the case(WINK,WINK)should he connect the dome light wire to one of the door pin wires to solve this.

That only works on 98 old style. On a 98 new style you have to diode isolate the independent door triggers. If you go to dome it will false.

In 99 the body changed not 98. In 99 there was a heritage edition like the new F150. It's called leftover parts.

When you arm your alarm does it chirp to tell you the door is open? Delayed dome light effects the white door trigger wire. The purple wire at the switch is before the delay.

I have seen many headlight switches fail. The door trigger is routed through the switch.
