Would it be possible to add power locks to a car that did not come with them from the factory? I have a 2000 Cavalier, and i was wondering when I get my Viper 300, if it was possible to do this?

Oh yeah, Actuators are about 10-20 bucks each and about an hours worth of labor to put them in.

They are real easy to put in. You might need to cut a little metal out of the door though.

Not sure if your viper has door lock outputs?

If you do it your self the 5 wire actuator goes in the drivers door.

Hey Iggster, you can get power door lock actuators from parts express (www.partsexpress.com) for $4.95 each (they were just on sale for $3.65 each). These are the same decent actuators you'll get from online dealers or local shops (sorry, guys!). Your car might even be prewired to just add a couple switches & 2 wire actuators. If not, I added them to an RX7 I had, and it was fairly easy. The only thing will be putting in switches and making it look good.

Good Luck & hope this helps.

a company called autoloc makes kit for shaved door handles, power lock kits, alarms and other things. They are pretty cheap and the kit comes w/ everything needed. try www.autoloc.com i am not sure if thats right or not though.

Wow, that was fast. Thank you for all the input everyone. And With my alarm, I would have to get something added on to it that costs only a couple bux that makes it able to use the power locks. Again, thank you.

I installed actuators in all 5 doors on my suburban. In most cars I have done this to, I mount the actuator in the same location as the factory would have. You will need to use your imagination in some cases. You could just operate the actuators with the alarm, but the best thing to do is add a switch(s) to operate them as well.

David,

Abou the Omega Research snippits... I was wondering if you had any detailed harness info for the trunk of a '93 Integra (RS model). I have the shop manual but it falls short on delivering the goods as far as rear harnesses are concerned.

A quick question about the door lock acts. and switches. I added actuators to both doors with my 500ESP Viper (it has outputs thankfully)... I wanted also to add switches... where is the best plave to get add-on switches for the armrest of center console?? Parts Express doesn't have what I am after...

Thanks.

Andrew.

neex, you can find nice door lock switches at Micro (1-800-736-2999) or Jegs High Performance (1-800-345-4545). These switches look like the factory ones.

Turbo:

Thanks! I don't suppose they have any online links or anything? I am a mere peasant of Canada and up here in the slag and ice, those silly 1-800 trunks often fail to comply with our needs...

Thanks,

Andrew.

I just went to a junk yard and bought the same switches that would have come in my Suburban if it had come from the factory with power locks. Most are a 3 wire switch. You have an input and 2 outputs. If your alarm has ground outputs for the power locks, just connect the input wire of the switch to ground, and the lock side of the switch will connect right to the alarm lock output wire. The same for the Unlock side of the switch. It might be a good idea to diode isolate these wires.
As for the Omega book, it doesn't give schematics, just the wire to connect to and the color and location. This book only deals with alarm/keyless entry/remote start/speaker connections.
