I wanted my fellow forum members to know I do have color codes for alarm connections in most vehicles made in the last 15-20 years.
This includes remote start, door lock, alarm, etc.. connections. I have the 3 volume set "BOOK III" from Omega R&D. Dont hesitate to ask if anyone needs help with this information.
BTW I am also a locksmith, I am well versed with new Factory security features, such as GM VATS (this has been around for 15+ years actually) many of you may not be aware, but some new cars have keys with built in radio transponders. I bet many of you didn't know that some new Toyotas with transponder keys, if you lose all of your keys, the vehicle has to get a new "Brain module"...Not even the dealer can produce a new key. I understand this costs around several thousand dollars...

Hey TQ.

Have you used these books extensively yet? I've heard them to be unreliable. I was wondering if its true.

I know tech soft is extremly acurate, but unless your selling DEI, I don't know of a way to get it.

Also could you verify something for me, I need door lock wires color/location for a 95 talon. Thanks!

I have been an Omega dealer for years, and yes, these books are very reliable. I rarely find a mistake, although I have.

Door locks on 95 Talon....
LOCK= BROWN/WHITE (Brown w/ white stripe)
UNLOCK= BROWN
At relays on relay block to the left of the steering column.
This is a negative pulse type system...the easiest to interface due to the fact that many alarms put out a negative pulse for the door locks. you may not even need relays to interface your door locks with an alarm system.
BTW..If yours is a late 95 you may find the wires at a 20 pin connector high in the driver kick panel

You are correct with the tach wire, it is white located at the distributor. Most likely the problem you are having is, the VATS system. I am sure you have noticed that resistor chip embedded in your key. You can use a relay and resistor to temporarily bypass the vats system, only when remote starting. Most alarm manufacturers make a kit that is easy to use. Check with Clifford.

You could do this yourself, you will need to measure the resistor in your key, go purchase a resistor at Radio Shack +/- 10% of yours. You will also need a SPDT relay.
The VATS wires are 24 ga. white, enlosed in an Orange sleeve. DO NOT CONFUSE THESE WITH THE AIRBAG WIRES (IF EQUIPPED). The airbag wires are usually enclosed in a Yellow sleeve.
You tap a wire from the Ignition output of the remote start unit to pin 86 of the relay. You will need to diode isolate this wire.
Pin 85 on the relay goes to ground.

Cut one of the white vats wires. The "Key" side of this wire goes to pin 87a. The "vats module" side of this wire goes to pin 30 of the relay.

Now wire the correct resistor in between the uncut white vats wire, and pin 87 of the relay.

I hope that was not too confusing.
An easy for you to see if it is the VATS system keeping you from remote starting is, insert the key into the ignition, dont turn it on, and try to remote start. If it starts, then you know this is the problem.

Feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

Thanks Dave but I already bypassed it and tried remote starting the car with the keys in it and it cranks but it just revs real high and then it shuts off, almost as if it does not sense the tach wire tap I did, maybe it has to do with my extending the wires? Clifford does not want to aid me nor do thier dealers just cause I did it myself.
Again Thanks

Unfortunatly I am not familiar with the Clifford unit. One more thing to check would be, make sure you are powering the ignition #2 wire when remote starting. This can be found at the ignition harness. It should be Orange. Let me know if this helps. I will keep thinking...The reason it shuts off is probably because the tach sensor wire is working, and detects the high reving engine. This will cause most remote start units to shut off.

David,

Do you have a scanner handy? Would it be possible to have you scan a page or two from the Omega Research books?

Just a drunken thought...

thanks for your previous help with the piezo sensors...

Andrew.

Heres what I have
CONSTANT 12V+ RED (2) @ IGN. HARNESS
IGN 12V+ PINK @ IGN. HARNESS
STARTER YELLOW OR PURPLE @ IGN. HARNESS
DOME LIGHTS WHITE OR ORANGE/BLACK ***NOTE*** If equipped with aux. lighting option, the dome lights can be turned off by a switch that interrupts the door pin circuits to the courtesy lights, use ORANGE/BLACK (-) @ THE SWITCH. If Aux. lighting package in not present, use WHITE (-) @ PIN SWITCH
PARKING LAMPS BROWN (+) @ LIGHT SWITCH
POWER LOCK LIGHT BLUE @ DRIVER KICK PANEL

Some alarms have positive pulse outputs that connect directly to the wires without the need for additional relays. Most alarms have negative outputs that will need to be switched to positive with the use of relays. Many companies make a convient plug in relay socket for this.

I have a mercury switch that only has two wires coming out of it. when the switch is tilted one way, the circuit is completed, and vice versa. I was wondering how I could hook this into my viper 550esp?

If your alarm requires a negative trigger, connect one (either one) of the wires on your mercury switch to ground. The other wire goes to the negative trigger circuit on your alarm.
If the alarm requires a positive trigger, connect one wire (either one) to 12v+ constant, the other to your positive trigger input of your system.

Absoulutely, as long as you have an extra channel output on your alarm.

I do not have my 2000 update yet. I haven't heard about the interupt you mention. I would highly recommend using a harness adapter with this one. If you are installing an aftermarket radio this is the best way to go.
