I've got an 820 watt Power Acoustic Saphire Amp. It's got the Edge lit neon, and right now it's all under my seat. I want to somehow invert it and hang/mount it from my roof..... anybody got any ideas ho to do it??? I'm thinkin maybe aluminum bracingunder the headliner, or maybe fiberglass....????

that's not what he means mazdacrozdout- the heatsink would be just the same as if it were mounted traditionally.

mazda, I'm not knocking anyone's knowledge here, but have you ever had an amp apart? When you mount them traditionaly, the board is upside down, mounting the amp upside down would put the board right side up.

An although mounting it upside down does restrict heat transfer properties in a nill manner, it's better to have it upside down in the open air, then right side up under the seat. But thats Just an educated opinion.

Of course, an amp under each seat, and you could tell the ladies "It's got heated seats"

Email Poer Acoustics and ask them. I know ith my equpiment, it tells me to mount the damn thing right side up so that the heatsink will work the way it was ment to. You know head rises, off the head sink, which would mean if it was up[side ownm th heat would be under it, probably cookin it like dinner [Wink]

How about we come to a happy medium and say hang it upside down with a mffin fan or two on it to circulate the air over (or under) the heatsink?

This debate on how to properly mount an amplifier can go on for days... I can pull up "credited sources" that say you can mount an amp inside out... everyone has thier own opinion, and some people just might have pulled off something youre "not supposed to do". My crystal amps - for example - say to mount them verticaly. This is proposed to be the best way to cool these amps. But you know - even at 1500-1700 watts the damned things never get hot anyway... so it might not matter.

Install it the way you want to and test... if it gets obnoxiously hot, then obviously you are either going to have to choose between looking cool - and BEING cool. be careful, take your time - do what you want to do - and make adjustments from there.
