I'm getting a JVC LX3, and I want to flush mount it in a piece of black plexi in my dash so that when its off, it disappears. I have a 98 S-10 with the DIN 1.5+ opening. I know I have to bend the mounting tab in the back for depth, can anyone help me with the face?? I was thinking of getting a cheap kit and glueing (screwing) the brackets to the back of the plexi to line up with the mounting holes. Does anyone have any ideas on simplifying this procedure?? Maybe a completely new approach??

i am not sure about how your stereo would look, but i installed one in a 240sx and there is like a 2mm gap(not noticble) and it barely sticks out. I can walk past the car at night and i wont notice it.

For a custom kit I usually wind up using epoxy to hold the plexi to the back of the trim panel and then making a support for the deck in the dash for it to rest on so as to not stress out the plaxi.

Looking more at the unit. Here again are my thoughts. I think I am going to use the DIN mount bracket to hold the radio (with a rear support). I am going to epoxy (maybe even JB Weld) some leftover brackets that I have from one of those universal mounting kits to screw it into the factory holes. I am then going to screw some metal L brackets to the DIN mount to hold the plexi face, and epoxy the face to the L's. This allows it to be easily removable, yet still pretty sturdy.
Does this sound ok? Using this, all load would be carried by the DIN bracket, and none by the face.
