Getting ready to install some monitors. i want them flush mounted in the headrests my issue is that they only came with the swivel mount dash brackets. Any one have any nifty tricks for installing them with out the bulky ugly trim pieces? they are kenwood 7" monitors in surburban headrests. i have an idea and jsut want more.

Take a few minutes and fabricate a set of trim rings for the monitors.
The rings should follow the shape and size of the monitors with a slight gap (1/16") on each of the four sides of the monitor. The gap will allow the monitor to be press fitted into the ring, after it has been inserted into the headrest. The ring should be positioned between the vinyl and foam padding of the headrests, with the vinyl cut to allow the placement of the monitor into the ring. It may be necessary to build some sort of mounting mechanism, but in most cases the foam and vinyl will provide all the necessary support. If you need further assistance feel free to send me an e-mail.

THANKS, just needed a conformation of what I was thinking. how thick should the material be for the ring. 1/2 mdf and just sink it into the foam more. that is what i am thinking now.

take a piece of 1/4" mdf/plexi/abs and make it 1/16 of an inch bigger than the monitor. take some 1/16 or 1/8 abs and form it around the previous piece at a height equal to or greater than that of the monitor.
either plastic weld the piece/fuse it together with a soldering gun/or super glue it with an accelerator. wrap the monitor with a couple layers of masking tape (acts as the width of the vinyl/leather) insert it onto the first piece you made then attach the pieces... sorry i had to add that step which i forgot at the beginning.
anyways, it isn't going to form easily so use a heat gun . sparingly
when all completed start removing the stuffing and vinyl but leave an inch from where the monitor is going to be flushed. add the piece carefully and secure it to the headrest. now work the vinyl around the trim panel and cut off the excess. careful in the corners, a smal v-shape cut works great. add a little heat to the vinyl, now press fit the monitor in.
make sure the wires are ran first...
also a dab of silly cone works good to get it secured. and there you have it a perfect looking headrest install. also make sure the contours of the head rest are equal with the trim ring that way you don't get an ugly looking hump in it.
