Hey, i just bought this book the other night. "The car stereo cookbook" Bought it at B&N for like 25$. Well worth it for those of us who are self teaching themselfs. Lots of in-depth info for those of us who are tech heads too. Has important tips like factory sound system upgrades, power and ground, etc etc. I definately am going to recomend it to anyone who is learning about mobile electronics.

That is a fine book to start with! Vance Dickason is the author I believe. Some VERY solid fundamentals and even some very good advanced stuff to be found in that one! Check out also his loudspeaker design cookbook, another very fine book!

"The Car Stereo Cookbook", McGraw Hill,1998, by Mark Rumriech..I bought mine at the db Drag Finals from the Author himself. Nice book, I recommend it. My fav is still my " Loudspeaker Design Cookbook", Amateur Audio Press, by Vance Dickason. Also I HIGHLY recommend: "How to Design and Install High Performance Car Stereo", Cartech, by Joe Pettitt. Nice basic through intermediate theory and lots of NICE custom info and pics(Fiberglass, etc.). And "Advanced Speaker Systems", Master Publishing, by Ray Alden, available at Radio Shack(really!) and is comparable to Vance's TLDC book with less diagrams and tech info but LOTS of good speaker/enclosure theory and formulas. Rat Shack makes a Car Audio book also, but it's mediocre at best.. "Ultimate Auto Sound", Amateur Audio Press, by Daniel L. Ferguson, is ok also with emphasis on adding to factory systems.. Most of these books are available from Old Colony Sound Laboratory or Amazon.com usually has great deals on them.. Hope that helps...

My first was the RadShak Advanced Speaker Systems. It was a very good book for the beginner even though they reference their own products throughout. The Loudspeaker Design Cookbook is worth WAY more than $40!! You cannot be serious about boxes without this book.

Thanks everyone for the book opinions, I ordered my copies of "Car Stereo Cookbook" and "Loudspeaker Design Cookbook" from Amazon.com based on your recommendations, and it should be very cool and helpful.

I bought this book from crutchfield A while back. It has some good stuff for new people to car audio but for someone that knowes a little bit there was nothing new.

You are, of course, joking right? If you are in fact referring to the Cookbook I find myself rereading portions all the time. Sure the concepts are not entirely new but a lot of the information is hardly common knowlege.

I'm with Dukk, tlsdc has some very strong and timeless information, which cannot all be absorbed at one time and committed to memory. How Mr. Dickason ever finished that book is beyond me. For such an "entry level" book (meaning not college diff. EQ. or something similar) it sure DOES provide some very important, very technical information. It will remain on my bookshelf for all time in the foreseeable future. Right next to Pam Lee's playboy...

Well you got a point there Dukk I have gone back a few times I think for some cap answers but what I meant is I thought it would have been more advanced than it was but it was still a good book.
