I have objections and questions about the weight limit of my car that, to me, partially makes no sense.
I currently own a 1988 Ford Crown Victoria.
The weight limit states- 900 LBs MAX in cabin area 300 LBs MAX in Trunk area.
I have had over 1000 LBs of weight in the cabin area(7 people) and nothing odd happened...
Also- The trunk is rated for 300 LBs. The trunk is made out of what appears to be aluminum. This is not the same material used in newer and other car's trunks. This material violently rattles due to the subwoofer in this area.
I am afraid that if this material the trunk is made out of really can't exceed 300 LBs what should I do if I want to install 2 Group 8D batts and 90 LBs of amps.
This total weight would be 420 LBs of weight in the trunk.
The subwoofer(s) are being moved to the cabin area soon and the cabin area weight should increase to an extra 460-510 LBs.
Total additional weight in car would be on average- 880-930 LBs plus an extra Alt as well.
What should i do about the trunk and what do most do about the additional weight of the vehicle.
PS- this car isn't a value to me. If something major goes wrong with it, i'm buying a Tahoe, no questions asked.

It isn't the metal you need to worry about, it is the suspension pieces. It is not going to happen in one day. It will shorten the life of each of those pieces. You may also see some transmission issues.

cut through the trunk and add steel right to the frame. the gas tank is forward so you will have the room but the suspension will then beocme an issue there are places that can put in another leaf to hold the back up. just one question that maximum weight limit how does that convert to fat girls would that be three or two really fat girls?????? hhhaaaaaa louis were you drooling?????

i'm no expert in suspension but i would expect that if you looked into beefing up your springs and shocks you would be ok. you may also want to look into your brakes as well. with the added weight you'll have more stress put on your brakes when trying to bring your car to a stop.
and of course your 0-60 time will decrease as well...throw a turbo in there and you'll be good to go. haha.
i wasn't exactly thrilled to add a couple hundred pounds of dynamat and equipment to my TypeR...i can definitely tell the difference in hard cornering. it helps get closer to the ideal 50/50 weight distribution between front and rear but stock suspension isn't setup for this. one day i'll fix this but for now it's ok.

Under heavy power draws while driving, i sometimes notice it hard to get in the passing gear unless i turn it down.
Ya know cars are not designed to have bass pounding the shiat out of it everyday The tranny will have to work harder to pull the extra weight just like if you have people sitting in your car. My particualr car didn't like bass at all Car starts to act all funny after I installed my stereo and even after I took everything out my car's still focked up No mechanic can give ma a straight answer as to why my car's acting this way.

Sorry I forgot about this post. I agree with above about weight. It is the weight that can cause transmission problems. I'm not talking about a simple box, couple of amps and some wire. I mean those people with multiple upon multiple batteries, large number of amps, multi-layer sub enclosures, etc.
A normal street beater is probably ok. Someone trying to compete in Street Max and up in DB Drag---I think you could have an issue.
