what would be the most effective way shape a surface before i fiberglass it. i'm fiberglassing a new well for my convertable top (the old vinyl skirt is ulgy, ripped and draining alot of water off into the trunk. right now i'm working with some 11mm spruce ply to get a basic well, but there will be some gaps and rises that i need to fill and round out for a perty install. also i need to rise it in the center a little so the water will run off to the sides where the drains are. i was thinking clay, but it takes so long to dry out and is a messy bitch to work with. maybe paper mache, but it does'nt fill or build up to good (better for quick, easy mold). i'm stumped, i got a few days of workin the wood around the mechanics and smothing out areas of contact with the top, but will eventually have to sit down and do this. gonna be fun workin with resin inside a cosealed space though.

i have made several shapes to form fiberglass around using great stuff minimal expansion foam. foam up a area to be worked with(cover everthing that you do not want this stuff to stick to with plastic wrap) then you can carve or shave hardened foam into about any shape that you want. if you plan on using it as a mold, cover with plastic and mist with a release agent. if you can simply leave the shaped foam in place just cover with fiberglass. it is a little time consuming but works rather well for me good luck!

i love expansion foam, i glued my brothers bike up with a can of it. it don't come of nothing easy. i just hate working with it, you need alot of practice to beable to predict it's expansion.
