Hey Jeff and DB DON, I know both of you guys said that you have done install on a 2000 cavalier, and well my install is crap in my opinion. I cannot fit the trimming on the face plate, because of the way it is installed. They said they would have to charge me an extra 80 dollars to do custom labor to make it fit right. They would have to cut a little pocket in the back vent or something they said. I was wondering what you guys had to do, or what mounting kit you guys used. I was thinking of having them use a kit for a 95 s-10, because those stick out a couple inches. Can you guys help me out...or anyone else that has done install on a 2000 cavalier...thank you

I'm Pretty sure it has the new Din and a half opening for the radio.... i think the kit is Metra 99-2001 along with the harnees which is 70-2001... and all you half to do is cut a 2 inch wide plastic brace behind the radio.. and your good to go....The Kit number might be wrong ...but we just did one recentlly and it looked kick ass.....almost flush in the dash with standard kits...and a Slight Mod behind the radio....Which is easy.....Also this car is known for the Non-Ignition wire ....So you will have to grab a Ign Wire from under the dash....untill we figure out how gm turns the damn radio on..

Well Tech, its installed, but looks like complete(pardon the lagnuage) ass. I will let them know what you recomended. I appreciate it...and yeah they said it would be 80 bux more to cut into the vent to make it fit right..does that sound right to u?

Freshness, How do I get the trimming to fit on....do they really have to cut a pocket into my vent shaft?? What about a 95 S-10 kit, where it sticks out a little, it wont look as good flush mounted, but at least they wouldnt have to cut or charge custom labor...any insite?

Iggy: got one (1) phrase for you: "Do It Yourself". If your persistant and have a free weekend evening, spend the time (not the money) to know it's done right! Ok, i know your a bit hesitant since it's a new car, and i know you should support your local shop, but you've done that already by letting them install it the first time. I'm not talking out my a** either. A friend of mine was hesitant about installing his HU in his '96 Jetta, but after countless days of coercing he finally budged and said he would let me do it. I spent the better part of a Saturday removing a brace in the dash with a dremel tool. Now, he is happy with the results and knows it was done right, NO SHODDY JOB HERE!!! I'd just do it!!!

Well, I am giving a guy at a different circuit city a call, and see what he can do for me....if that does not work, I will be doing it myself I suppose. Thanx for the feedback guys!

Iggy I had sorta the same prob on my 88 Sunbird and earlier model of the Sunfire thats the cousin of the cavi, wow what a family tree, anyway with normal kits my radio always stuck out a little bit from the dash and looked bad, until I found one I believe from metra that has a small pocket at the bottom to store a CD case, not sure of the model but I think it will fit your car as well. Anyway it now is almost flush with the rest of the dash, maybe sticks out a little bit, but is completely in the kit, I once that that I to would have to cut into the vent, didnt want to do that cause what if a leaf came up and was wet and hit the radio, can you say byby warrenty, hehe, anyway hope that helps, maybe you can find that kit. if needed I can always go out into the car and take a picture of it and let you see it so you can show people it instead of trying to describe it also.

Well Smitty, up until about 2 months ago I was the proud ownder of a 92 Sunbird....I dont know if the dash was the same as your 88, but im assuming it was close in that, the radio and the tape player were seperate units? I ended up using a bottom mounting kit on that, worked nicely. I am going somwhere tomorrow to see what they can do for me. It is still a ciruit city store(different one). And the guy will be doing it on the side for me so I dont have to pay the extra money for custom labor and stuff.

Iggy, mine is a din and a half unit, not the 2 seperates like you had, I had an ex-girl with what you had, anyway, so if your new one is a din and a half the one I'm talking about should fit. heres a pic

i put a CD deck in my mom's cavalier, and i used a metra kit. to get the deck to fit in there far enough i took a dremel and ground off a little piece if plastic that sticks up, only took about 5 minutes.

Well, folks, thank you for all the advice. I am back in business and flush mounted with the trimming on A guy at the circuit city in Country Side fixed it for me for free. He was outraged of the sheoty job the other store did, and did not charge me a thing. He did not have to cut into my vent shaft, just cut a bracket of plastic off Thank You again everyone...and smitty it looks just like urs
