Heh...I probably don't know any better but I have an '89 Ford Probe LX with a factory amplifier and I thought it was pretty easy to install a cd player in it.
I have only done 3-4 installs by myself in 3 different vehicles.

The new Cavaliers. You have to take the top of the dash off to get to the radio.

i have a 95 probe, and mine is the simplest thing in the world. chevy cavilers are a pain, simply because gettin the dash off always breaks the darn clips on the edges!! most newer luxury cars (lincoln, caddy, benz, BMW) tend to be a pain in the butt too

Hardest??? Different people will say different things... the older toyota minivan, the one where the drive sat OVER the front wheels, no one made a harness for it, so it was cut and splice, while half laying on the passenger seat, and your lower half out in mid-air, which makes it hard to breath, or the first couple years of the lexus or infinity, they both ****ed hard...

either an older chevy citation with the square deck, or the mid 90s pontiac's with the small 2" square decks. those are a pain, good luck finding a deck to fit in there. Posts: 2471 | From: Austin, MN USA | Registered: May 1999

Early 90's grand prix's. Not really all that hard to install, but a pain to make look good. There isn't much room in there...just enough for the factory. You'd have to take half the dash apart and more to make it run flush.

*My 1985 Chevy Caprice*....it was harder (by far) than my CRX, My Eclipse, my aunts Blazer, Other aunts Explorer, my moms Grand Marquis, My dads F-150, even my 94 Chevy Sivlerado with the FUBAR GM radio (with separate dash display/control panel in high dash, separate cassette in the middle dash, and separate tuner under the dash). The Caprice was just 1 piece(radio), but MAN! WHAT A BITCH!!!

I personally hate older GM fullsize trucks... You know, the ones you have to cut the dash to fit the DIN deck in? Ruins my day every time...
Next would have to be the next generation GM trucks with the dash controller, and the tuner tucked up under the dash...
Cars? Definatly the newer Cav's as previously mentioned. What a pain in the A$$!
And finally the most time consuming, pains in my ass, piss-me-off, installs: The ones where the " 'customer's brother's cousin Jake' said he could hook it up but we can't get it to work".
By the time you get into the car, the factory plugs are cut off, and there's about 2 inches of wire to work with. 4 fuses are blown, and there's a thick layer of trash, mud, spare change, and other unmentionable sticky debris on the floor right where you have to lay to get to the fuse box.
All this for a 10 year old Craig cassete deck they found out in the barn. Then you find out that it's fried and wasn't worth getting the now infected cut you got on the inner knuckle of you index finger.
I love my job! Pull the next car in please!
Thanks Wayne, for this great Forum, so that I may have a place to rant and rave and be understood my fellow car audio junkies!

The hardest installs are the ones where somebody else has "tried" before your. I had to put a system in an 85 mercedes 190 and it was a mess. The factory harness was long gone. There were about 3 sets of that cheap clear speaker wire - all in series and // with everything else - that served no noticeable function. To top it off, HALF of the factory wires were BLUE!! It took three hours in the cold, at night, with a flashlight, yards of black tape, four colors of magic marker (the wires had already been dashed in some heiroglphic by the former owner) and a really big head ache to put a stereo in it.
Does everybody have trouble with noise in systems in GM car? Or just everybody I know?

Actually, I find the newer Cavaliers easy...after a few (5 or more) they go fast.
But, the 2000 Cavaliers blow...no dash kits yet, still takes 2 hours to make the kit and install it right.
But hey, no one else around here can do that one yet.....

Hyundai(spelling?) Took me 4 hours to get the factory head unit out!!
Ford head units are the easiest, unless the prongs are bent beyond the key's length, then you have to smash the factory head to get it out.
Newer Cavaliers aren't too bad, if you're careful, the trim around the head unit will bend far enough to get the factory unit out without removing the top of the dash. JUST BE CAREFULL.

Any newer Ford car with the "football" radio/heater controls and actual radio/amp in the back. And definately the 2000 Cav. 'cause of the dash kit and all the other newer Cav's that you have to remove the whole dash. Remember the first one you did and the look on your face when you read the warning on the exposed airbag?

Any new Honda with the security system built into the radio **** because you have to do twice as much work. Saw a CRV being done, nope wouldn't touch that thing either.
