(1) Is an 18bit balanced DAC with 192x oversampling a high quality DAC? Audiophile quality? No pun intendend, Audiophyle.

(2) Does this sound like a good SQ system? Nakamichi CD-45z headunit, Tube Driver TD-2150 (2X150W into 4Ohms) running a set of a/d/s/ 336px components in kickpanels? I need suggestions on processing, sub amps, and subs. Hopefully this will all be put in a new VW Bettle. Think I could fit 8's in the dash? The dash is huge!

Thanks in advance for all your help. It is appreciated.

I think, if you sinking that kinda cash into the amp, you should use either the Nak mb-100, or the CD 700. They both share the same DAC, a 24bit, 8X oversampling one, the MB 100 is a 6 (I think) indash changer, and has a s/n ratio of like 95dB, the 700 has a s/n of 105. You need to go they're page to see all the specs. Dont get me wrong, the 45Z is an awesome sounding peice, but I think I'd go with a non-powered deck, and get the slightly better DAC. My .02 cents....

I've not listened to Naks in a long time, but their professional studio stuff is top notch!! The one head-deck that I heard a year or so ago was very nice.

If you got the cash, I'd go with McIntosh Nothing smoother, bigger , cleaner, bigger , nicer. Naks, Xtant and the like are extremely close, but I'd still go with a Big Mac.

You might still be able to find DAC-in-the-Box. I know Stereophyle showed a car with a DitB installed in the system.

Oh well, back to sleeping on my keyboard

Nak still makes they're outboard DAC. I think it sells for like 899 or somewhere around that amount.

I thought the CD-45z was Nakamichi's "top-of-the-line" single disc player. The CD-700 must be new. I'll go check out their site right after this. I'm not a big fan of changers so I think I'll pass on the MB-100.

O.K. now for the subs. I was thinking dual 8's in the dash. Would this work? If I do decide to use a/d/s/ components should I use a/d/s/ subs too? And should I use Tube Drivers to run these too? If not Tube Drivers, then what? I really don't want to use too many different brands. I've heard that some judges will actually mark you down for that. Is this true?

Also, what about processing? What would you reccommend? If it's needed, of course.

Please give me your opinions. Thanks a lot to all who reply.

I dont like tube amps for subs. Yes, your subs in the dash Idea should work really well, but you may have tons of problems with rattles in the dash. Make sure you build your boxes really well to try to avoid some of that. Yes, the CD-700 is new, I guess, it was introduced about 6 months ago. It is definately they're flagship model! It retails for 1749.00. Check it out at: www.nakamichi.com You dont have to run all the same equipment. I run different brands, because that is what worked best for my system. I dont think, if all is installed properly, that you will need much in the way of signal processing, maybe a parametric EQ or, if you want a flat response, a 1/3 octave eq. Just get your stuff in, drive it a week or so, and see how it sounds.
