i currently have some q forms kickpanels and currently canceled an order on some focal utopias in search of something with "more bang" for the buck.

i came across recent posts on how great these dd components are.

i am currently looking for a new component set, preferably 5.25 inch to compliment my image dynamics idq8 subs in doors that are dedicated midbas's currently running in free air.

wiht that being said, i'm looking for a good 5.25 component set for midrange capabilities. midbass isn't all that important since my idq8's will take the load of that.

so..how would dd 5.25 component set sound in my q forms kickpanels. they are reinforced but not sealed. how would they sound in free air? remember, i'm only looking for dedicated midrange..

thanks in advance

the DD 5.0's will do fine in your setup. Midrange will be excellent.

ScCo,

Do the DDW5 and DDW6.5 sound similar? Noticed that there is a big difference in efficiency between the two drivers. Wondering if the DD crossover takes care of the efficiency difference if combined with the Vifa XT25 tweeter. Thanks.

the passives from DD are for the tweeters only. They don't interact with the mids.

Yeah, if you're looking into XT25s and DDW5s you might want to pick up some form of volume control for the tweets, because the tweets will be too loud in relation to the mids. With the DDW6.5s, the tweets are about right on for level matching, at least mine are.

Thanks ScCo and Rybaudio.

I thought the tweeter might be a little louder.

What about the tonality of the two woofers? Do they sound tonally similar? It would be easier to fit a 5 in the kicks but I would go to a 6.5 to get awesome sound.

Thanks.

David

I haven't heard the DDW5.0 yet, but I'd imagine it does about the same. They both seem to be built with the same philosophy.

sure hope so. on dd's website if you notice between these two drivers only the 6.5"s were stated "10 years" in the making for audiophile quality. there are various differences or characterists that were noted on that website in comparison between the 6.5" and the 5.25"..unless they forgot to post the same characteristics for the dd5.25's..check it out : www.ddaudio.com

csuho,

If I get them, you can definitely listen to them. I hope you aren't in a hurry though. At the rate I keep changing my mind and having to travel so far to listen to speakers, it may be a couple months. The speakers are the hardest part for me right now. I would like to go with 4" or 5" in the kicks and a 6.5-8 in the door. Too many choices.

SoundsGreat,

I noticed that there does seem to be quite a bit of difference between the drivers in terms of specs and looks. I emailed DD but haven't heard anything back yet on the DDW5s.

call and ask for steve. He'll talk to you how ever long you want to talk about the similarities and/or differences in the 5's and 6.5's.
