OK, want to move the components to the kickpanel in a 1999 Chevy Z-71. Should be tight, but enough room for a 6.5 comp set. Not likely to be able to fit another midbass driver there.

However, to keep up with Dr. Deep, the 18 Stroker, need some mid-bass. I talked with tech in KC a little, but I need some more thoughts on it.

I am going to use another 6.5 set for now. It is the MTX Black Gold series. They have huge magnets, and I've used them for mid-bass before. Can get very loud. They will probably run from 60-120 Hz.

Questions: 1. for this frequency range, is stereo still necessary, or can you get by with mono? (I'm pretty sure it needs to be stereo, but just checking)
2. How important is directionality, i.e. proper aiming, etc. on this freq. range. Can I do weird stuff under the dash, or even stock door location facing off-axis?

I know what you'd do in an ideal world, but in car audio there are the everpresent trade offs. Thanks guys

Hmm im not a big SQ guy "yet : P" but for midbass and in that freq range ive always just went with the, aim right speaker at the left seat and left speaker at the right seat.

Just my 2 cents

I think plopping them into the factory door locations will probably be ok, at least until or if you become serious about competing. Yes, you should run them in stereo, if possible. This will only firm up your front stage even more. I would think that with a bit of work, a pair of 8's could probably be stuffed in the doors. You could also do the 6.5's in the footwells if your really adventurous.

OK, if we do the 6.5 or 8 in the door, it is probably much better is we seal it, how is that easily accomplished?

Also, what do you mean by building it into the footwell?

I mean, build them into the footwell area. Under the pedals on the drivers side, on the firewall area of the passenger side. Yes, they will sound better in an enclosure of some kind.

STILL waiting to hear a GOOD pair of HLCD's!!

If it dont fit, force it... if it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyway...

You could also remove the glovebox and build an enclosure for the 6.5's there. I have done this with Focal 5KX's, and it works really well. Just make sure you secure the box to the metal frame work of the dash, or you'll have all kinds of problems with rattling and buzzing and crap like that...
