I've been using Kicker resolutions forever now, and I like them very much. For me, price aside, but not abazillion dollars, what are my top 5 choices for a car audio component set??? Also, lots of people ask what are good speakers to put in their cars, be components, or coaxials, and these days, I'm sure what to tell them. Seems like most stuff is run of the mill quick production garbage. Who makes decent stuff for a fair price?? thanx in advance

Excellent, something to look into! I knew MB's would be in there, though I'm sure about their product. I have heard them raved about over the years. How about AVI? Something you rarely hear about?? OK, search time! More????!!

a friend of mine has a set of the higher end AVI's in his dodge truck, powered by a jlaudio 500/5 with the active crossovers. sounds great! super clean and lots of output.

They do, but the Hexes are nothing like back in 1997-99 when they used Eton mids. After they went to China and had the silver mids, they went down hill fast.

I have been running ADS for a couple of years now and would have to say they are very respectable. Probably be upgrading to Hybrid or Scanspeak soon though.

i also had the hds with 300 a side a one time awsome. but they make much more expensive comp sets,i paid 550$ when they were new.i know they can get up too or more than 2500$

Some an exotic and familiar names, ones I have considered already. But if I spend a mint, I want the best. The ones I won't change out for 15 years, like my AVI's I have downstairs! Something that isn't in a 40 hour range to install and tweak range either!!!

Cadence CVL6ks are the cleanest I've heard, and I've sat in cars with MB Quart. The other lines from cadence are sub par but the CVLs are awesome

dynaudio. had focal utopias and required a massive (imo) of EQ to even sound listenable...really harsh. I'm really against having EQ in the signal chain and tossed the 1/3 octave once I switched to the dyns. it simply wasn't necessary and the improvement in clarity was definitely noticeable.
the only thing I don't like is the power handling....they do not like high volume. Nevertheless they are a great sounding speaker.

I lost respect for Boston along time ago. They just seem to go the way of all others over time. Then again, I haven't watched them as much since the very beginning. I see them reamerging in Crutchfeild, but it's like - I have no background with Boston since like, the 90's.I have yet to hear Zapco, but feel they may be something to look at.

As far as boxed sets DLS iridiums are nice for the money. Going piece by piece I had pretty good luck with the OW-1's and lotus mids (took some work to get to sound good though).

I personally prefer the sound of paper mids, and cloth tweeters. There are lots out there. By the way the Zapco's are made for them by ESB. Morel, Scan Speak- can't go wrong there!
