1st: How can I import music from CD's to my PC without using any kind of compression?

2nd: Once I get the uncompressed files into the PC can I burn them as is onto a blank DVD?

I haven't picked up a DVD burner yet, but I'm hoping to get 80-100 tracks on a blank DVD without losing ANY SQ from the original. I've got a new Alpine W200 and the 701 processor that I'm getting ready to have installed, but I really don't want to use a CD changer. Up untill now I've imported all my music as MP3's at a bit rate of 320.I love being able to search through 40 folders on a single disc in my head unit. I'm hoping to do the same with the new HU without using compression. Sorry if these questions are lame , but I'm not exactly a computer geek.

Martin

Thanks Winslow. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for in an external DVD burner? Martin

[no]

to import w/o compression.

- insert cd
-- 'explore' files on cd
--- drag files to said PC

the end.

Then do what winslow said because it actually works. The way a pc recognizes cda files are actually referneces to positions on the disk. dragging these files to a pc will not play the actual audio unless the disc is in the drive.

However if you are going to run a compressed format and don't want a lot of loss, use OGG vorbis as it is the best quality compression out there. Again, any compression will degrade quality.

The .wav format will get the cd audio to the PC uncompressed (as stated earlier). The trick is getting them on to a DVD. If you want uncompressed audio playable on any DVD player you have to use PCM encoding (I am not referring to the DVD Audio standard). I typically use 48khz and 16 bit. The program that I am using is Audio DVD creator. This is not an unwavering endorsement of that product. There are several quirks that may be operator error or just a bad product. Also, the product seems to convert from wav to analog and then to PCM (I assume this from the increase in noise floor and just the way that it sounds). I have just upgraded to a new Audigy sound card and I will let you know what it did to the SQ.
