I'm currently using an Image Dynamics ID12 subwoofer. It does a pretty good job, but I want to upgrade from it. I have about 3 cubic foot of airspace available--sealed, and 1000 watts at 2 ohms (500 @ 4 ohms).
The subs I'm thinking about are:
JL Audio 12w6v2 Image Dynamics IDMax 12 Polk Audio SR124.
I've heard the JL sealed, and really like it. I don't think I've ever head a Max in anything other than a free air set up. I've never heard the Polk at all.
Any comments on these or any other 12" subs? Tonal qualities are all that matter. I compete in MECA and SQC in IASCA---so I don't do SPL at all--ever.
If you have the surface area, I would do with the IDQ15. Actually a pair of them would fit in that box no problem if you had the surface area for them.
FWIW, Matt says the IDQ15 is one of his favorite drivers they build...he really really really likes that sub.

No way a 15" fits. It is in my center console firing towards the rear. The distance between my seats was like 12 1/2". So I have an enclosure that is 13" wide .
Would an IDQ be better than an IDMax? (still in 12")?

I'd get the Max over the IDQ in a 12...but both are awesome. I use an IDQ12 in the house, and it is very good...so good that Dr. Edgar uses the 12s and 15s in his sealed box sub systems when people don't want to buy the horn sub. I think he likes the Maxes better too.
IDQ15s are as close as you'll get to an IDW according to Matt.
