Im in the design phase of my sq vehicle. I will enter it into rookie class iasca. My sig below lists the components. It will be in a 2004 liberty. I want to maintain some cargo usage, atleast for grocery bags or small items. Because of this and sq reasons im planning a sealed box built to spec @ 1.0 ft^3 each. I will also be using all the stock locations which is as follows. Mids in doors up front, tweets in top of dash by windshield, rears in doors also.
Any tips you have on designing and tuning? especially with how to build the box for best response. I.e. facing back? facing up? facing forward? angled? any tips would be amazing and i thank you for the help in advance.

Sealed box facing backward should work good in your truck. I also recommend not using the rear door speakers because speakers that low in the vehicle pointed at rear passenger's feet will do nothing at all to help your front soundstage.
If you're going to use the separates in your sig, you may want to experiment with angling the mids and tweets within the factory locations. Aim for a sweet spot around, yet just under the rear view mirror area.
You will also want to consider some type of sound deadening for your truck, especially in the doors.

I have 72 ft^3 of dynamat going in so far. If I need more i will get more. My deck has time alignement options in it and also a 14 band eq. Without buying a huge EQ will this give me some decent flexibility? Iasca is the exact same here...

To be competive in Rookie in IASCA you need to be able to go active on all speakers and you need some processing power. I can't think of a single deck that can do that. Look into the Alpine H701, or possibly the RF 360.2 (I'm not 100% up on it). You are building for one seat judging. So you need to be able to effect the signal of each speaker.
Also, you need the ability to have an RTA/SPL curve that you can just push a button and change that setting to help achieve a good RTA score and a high SPL score.
You can do well from factory positions (as long as those positions are not horrible), but you still need flexible processing and a great tuner.

Are you familiar with the Pioneer 9800mp? I am going to be using it now as opposed to the 9400mp. It features a 16 band eq, 3 way active xover and time alignment. It has custom eq settings so i was thinking one for sq one for spl. I will have access to the mic and rta for approx 3 weeks prior to the show for tuning purposes.
I know the front stage is very important for this so i will fade out the rears for the comp. What other suggestions do you have for the bass? More specifically with the placement again. I agree that it will probably sound better aimed back at the tailgate. Is there an advantage to having them really close together or further apart? I know when 2 woofers touch they are basically acting as one...

But if he is going 3 way, then that opens up a whole new world...
Plus the P9 has a lot better fine tuning ablilty...I think that radio only allows for 2dB adjustments to the EQ. P9 gets you 1/2dB adjustments.
Want better sounding bass? Get rid of the class D amp on the sub. For a good replacment, look into the amplifiers Andy has listed in his sig...some of the best in the world.

im staying with what i bought, i work for bestbuy and am doing this vehicle as sort of a demo vehicle/daily driver. So i want the best possible sq but also its for personal use and within the limits of what BBY offers here in canada... Im also going to be competing in rookie as there was no sponsorship and this is my first comp so with all do respect the level that you guys are suggesting is above where im going to be. I can see though that you guys no your shti... Kind of thinking just ways in which to improve a stock setup with some decent equipment...
Why would a class d not deliver the as good of sq as another type such as a/b/ab? I figured the better efficiency and limited frequency range would give me tighter bass and better power to the freqs that need it...

If you work for best buy you can't compete as a Rookie (especially if you are getting stuff on accomodation). You are in (at a minimum) the Pro-Street class. You can also compete in Pro Ultimate.

What does accomodation mean? I work in Home theatre not carfi (car audio). So although i technically work for a retailer in the industry i dont work "for" the industry...

You would still be in pro class I believe. I think the only exceptions that are made are if you do clerical work or something of the sort and buy your equipment from a completely different retailer and provide retail receipts.
If you used your discount to buy the equipment, its an automatic pro class.
