Alright I am ready to get rid of my Focals and try the new Dayton Reference 7's, but I have a few questions.

Will the Daytons fit in my 2006 Ford F-150 Supercab XLT without major modifications?

What tweets should I pair them up with?
(Was thinking Dayton Ref. tweets)

Can anybody here build me a crossover for my setup? (If so how much, if not where can it be done)

Thanks for any help.

they are like 3.5" deep....so you tell us.

For tweet suggestions we need a budget.

Crossover frequency can be generic, but its best if you already have a desired cross point chosen for speaker placement/vehicle response and driver selection.

Madisound may build you a crossover for a fee...though last time I heard they weren't doing that anymore.

I was wondering if anybody here had any experience installing a speaker as deep as the Daytons so I don't have to tear off my door panel just yet. Budget is probably no more than $150 for a pair of tweets. I wanted to cross over the 7's at 50Hz, cause I heard they get low easily. And I heard that the Reference 7's don't like to go much above 2khz from a couple of reviews. So I was looking at the Reference tweets because it says they could go down to 1.6khz (hope that makes sense). I will be running a Diamond Audio D5300.4

I'm kinda scared to do anything DIY and get rid of the Utopias. I am not quite sure what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as a DIY comp set goes? (I like detailed punchy mids, without ear piercing highs, like the TN51).

You need 2 way or 3 way?

I would get the largest Dayton reference you can fit in the door, the 8 would be preferable...

Tweets...I think the scan 2904/6000 will dip to 2k, I used the Hiquphon Ow1's to 2k. 1.6 is pushing it for a tweet IMO...I think the Dynaudio esotar will do it, but its much more than $150 a pair.

I've never messed with the Dayton tweet.

I wouldn't be scared to go DIY, you will probably never go back. Especially with those drivers, It doesn't seem you have much EQ going on, and the focals don't sound very good IMO w/out it.

I only want 2 way, to keep it simple. I would love to an 8, so that sounds good. The only eq I have is the one inside the Eclipse 8454. The tweets you suggested are out of my price range. Is there a high quality tweet under $150 a pair that plays down to 2k, that will pair well with the Dayton Ref 8's?

I've not heard them, but those designs tend to be much more "placement" critical.

I've never looked for a tweet in your budget so I'm not much help with that.

Okay, I have decided to take your advice and go with the Hiquphon OW1, paired with the Dayton Refs. Now I think I am going to choose the 7's because the Ref 8's frequency range is 40-2000Hz and the Ref 7's are 40-2200Hz and I would be afraid there may be a gap, am I wrong? Or would going with the 8 be fine?

Also, as you see below I have a Diamond D6300.4 that I was planning on running my Utopias @ 4 ohms bridged providing 150W for each side.

What are my options now that I am going with the Daytons and Hiquphons? Do I run 1 speaker per input, or should I still bridge and get a crossover built? I don't believe my amp is powerful enough to achieve any of the speakers RMS @ 4 ohms.

Lastly, If I went active how do I ensure that the Mid and tweet get crossed over properly?

I will be using the Eclipse CD8454 to tune, but how do I make sure the mid gets crossed @ 50Hz and the tweet @ 2000Hz? (my question is hard to put into words)

Sorry for the long post, but I do need the help.

Actually, does anybody that knows what their talking about have a phone number they want to give me. I would much rather talk in person to somebody knowledgeable, because my posts sound dumb.

I didn't think that Madisound did crossover design for speakers they didn't sell.

No I didn't check with Madisound.

But are you saying I should go passive?

I am leaving on a fishing trip to Alaska tomorrow, so please feel free to leave input, and I will respond when I return.

LOL, I forgot these were Parts express speakers.

No, active is not ideal, but since you expressed concern about amplifier channels it is an option. However, I was thinking you were getting these from madisound which will usually have a crossover designed for their speakers...I spaced it-these are partsexpress speakers.

If the amp is putting out 75 x 4 it will be enough for the speakers to amp them seperately.

I've not heard the Dayton's personally to know if the response at 2k is lackluster, you will have to decide. I know that the cone area of the 7" is about the cone area of many 6.5's as the design includes a lot of flange. Check it out...

http://www.partsexpress.com/projectshowcase/dr-k-mtm/dr-k-mtm.pdf

As far as crossover, I don't know what your amp allows, or how that deck works...I'm pretty sure that was eclipse's TOL, I know you can pick slopes but what choice of crossover points I don't know...give us that info and what your amp has on board for crossover capability and we can help you.

Given where you are at now w/everthing, what I might consider is using the Dayton tweet as it will drop lower than the hiq if you do happen to need it. Having that flexibility would then allow you to use the 8", which is what I would do. No sense in the 7" IMO, more install hassle for nothing really.

The Hiq does not sound good any lower than 2k, even at 2k its a little thinner than it should be but very usable. Lower than 2k it starts getting noticably irritated.
