Hey fellas, I just installed my new JDM HU over the weekend. Some here have seen it in other forums, some have not- just thought I'd share as its a rare piece. http://photobucket.com/albums/f193/mannynj/

Thank you Andy...as you can see I have some serious gap above it. So i'll have to get a custom cut ONE piece (not two) to cover that vent assembly down to the bottom of the DD area...butted up to the HU
I would've just glassed it, but i had the dash kit on for a few yrs now and likely it would not look right without it. I lucked out..

I saw that converter boxes out there exist, I just can't seem to find any info on how well they work.
Looks very very good though, blends perfectly with your dash.
Thanks..
Nah...I get a few stations, but tuner only gets up to 90mhz. I'm a Stern fan so I got the Sporter in there with the fm modulator for when i need radio. But this is my first time I've fiddled with mp3's, as my buddy made me like 6 disks..so there are plenty of tunes along with my reference cds to keep me busy in the meantime.
I do plan to hold on to this piece for a while, so it may be in my interest to get a hold of a tuner.

i think i'd have to agree w/ you death-by-bass....not really a fan of the appearance. i think that headunit would look ok in a 60's car but not in something built in the 90's/2000's. the contrast between new school and old school in ones dash is not aesthetically pleasing to me.

Yeah, the valve has power and it's acts as a buffer.

they're going to have to use a high frequency powersupply to obtain the voltage for the valves (assuming the valves actually do anything )
not really my cut of tea having a high frequency powersupply IN the audio source.
Jeff Scott actually has the service manual and looked into its operation.. "..the tube is a "twin triode", it's definitely in the signal path (not just for show), 100 Volts on the plates. It operates as a "cathode follower" ... no voltage gain, more like a "buffer stage".But certainly will add tube "coloration" for those who like that sort of thing." http://forum.elitecaraudio.com/showthread.php?threadid=110963&pagenumber=1
I have no turn on/off pops. Its piss silent on 0db track and it sounds phenomenal- the top end specifically is amazing.
Cosmetically, I can see how it may not be some's cup of tea, however it is mine- i find it dead sexy and unique. Same way a McIntosh's retro look may not suit the modern dash, theres a high quality feel and sound to the deck that cannot be denied.

Nice amps too.
My wife would probably not care for it, but I'm about to drown in drool over here.
Thank you...I'm, quite enamored with it myself. Whats crazy was that I thought my wife was going to flip when she saw it hehe...and instead first words out of her mouth were 'wow, Manny that is really nice.' Which blew my mind because I expected her to flip. Threw some Sarah McLochlan on for her on our road trip and she accused me of changing my speakers-that something sounds different So that put a smile on my face, as shes caraudio hater #1...lol
Only gripe is this unit does not like scratched CD'd whatsoever. Something I havent dealt with in last few years of using Eclipse decks.

Let me know when you come up this way again...last time your notice was too late. I'd make the time to hear your setup.

Sure thing man. The more experienced ears that can listen and give me valuable input on how to improve the better. I come up often throughout the year, i'll let you know next time with better notice.

Thats what I'm hoping:)
I'm missing only a processor at the given moment, running all analog xovers only...I should have my hands on an H700 in a week or two and should be ready to boogie next time I shoot up.

Do you have a deflex pad behind the seas? Or non hardening clay on and around the baffle? These 2 items can/will make a world of difference, it was huge in my car.
As a side note, I did them both at different times, and both had an impact independant of each other.

No deflex pad...although i will look into it. I was looking into the Cascade ones for both the mids and my enclosure. The outside skin of the door itself is matted however behind the driver.
I have no room to apply non-hardening clay on the outside perimeter of the driver as the door panel is a tight fit. However the ring itself has about2 layers going over it of mat- not to mention i used high temperature strip caulk underneath the mounting ring when mounting it, as well as underneath the drivers lip as well. As the screws go in that thick stuff spreads to the sides and makes a sick seal and theres a good amount of solidity/weight on that part of the door.
But what I'm really leaning towards is cutting the door panel grill area off the door. I spent like an hour drilling more holes into them, but i think if i cut that plastic out the way and frame in some grill cloth over the area i can get better response and not lose any sound behind the DP .
