what kinds of 6 1/2" coaxial speakers cover the best dynamic range, have the smoothest midbass, and the clearest treble at high volume?? I kinda want to stay away from infinity's because the treble is too piercing at high volume, and figure they will be complimenting 2 12" id-q's.

Without a doubt.......JL XR650CX is one of the best sounding coaxes' on the market today. Try to find some that are already in a car, the board at the shop just doesn't do them justice.

Have you looked at the ID chameleons?
They sound great and if you ever want to mount them as separates you can.

The 6Ws are strictly mids, for about 200Hz-5KHz. They have no tweets and you need a dedicated midbass to go along with them.

On the topic- look @ a/d/s/, the new Kicker Resolutions have a coaxial option, the Chameleons, among others.

ID chamelions are a killer set of coaxis. Also OZ AUDIO has a new pair of coaxis that are killer as well

I'm running 2 pair of the Nakamichi 6.5" components off my Nak headunit, and I am really impressed with the sound. I think a single 8 would probably put me in the running for a serious SQ car.

The Original UK Made KEF 160Q UniQ drivers, the AVI CS160 coincident source drivers, and the a/d/s/ 336im are incredibly fine sounding systems capable of throwing unbelievably realistic images!

wow this is my third reply on sq forum so i think i will get me a sq name for the next reply!!

anyway on to your question on best coaxes for sq system.... their are many great coaxle speakers out their. But one of my favorites of all time was the basic JBL 6 1/2 coaxles!! I had a pair of them in my s-10 single cab and they rocked just running off of head unit power so i could imagine what they would sound like with a amp behind them!!

I have also listen to the new cerwin-vega iTs and all i have to say is "WOW!!" these rocked!! They sounded better than the cerwin-vega stealth seperates (6in mid and 1in tweet)!!! They had the same power also. The iTs have adjustable tweeters on them for max performance!! Just for kicks i put one of the new prototype zapco digital amps on them i belive was a 500watt amp, and I almost messed in my pants!! they took all of the power and sounded awesome, this was all done in a soundroom which useally sounds crappy than listening in a car. So i would at least look into them, they may be pricey but i think well worth it!!

Later,
Luin

Best coaxes for an sq system? Tough one, everyone is going to tell you something different. Listen, then decide for yourself. I would have to agree with SQStang however, Oz Audio kicks ass. So does Performance Audio Racing, we kick ass.
