Just wondering-- How come I don't see coaxials in most SQ vehicles? [Confused] Are they really THAT bad? What are the advantages/disadvantages of components?

In theory coaxials should be superior. Common point source (or very close). The problem with most coaxials is that companies don't make them with the same quality as they do with components. Components generally have better passives, the power to power the tweeter and the mid separately without a passive, etc.

If you look at several of the top SQ cars, you will see component sets being mounted as coaxial type speakers. Basically people make their own. So you can have the best mid and the best tweet (mix/match sets).

MB Quart makes some very nice coaxials.

Basically what I am saying is that manufacturers of Coaxials generally are not aimed at pleasing anal IASCA competitors, so the quality of the sets generally lack over available components. Its not the design of the coaxial, is the goals of the manufacturer.

Up until about a month ago, I had my components mounted coaxially. Like Andy said, if the manufacturers put the same quality into the coaxs as they do in their components you would see more people using them. Image Dynamics makes the chameleon set that can be used either way, and in the 3 cars I put those in, all three had them mounted coax in the end. a/d/s made some sets that had the outboard crossovers and used the same parts as their component sets and those were great sets.

very few compainies make highend co-axils like AJ & jc2 said, they have cheaper x-overs or sometimes just in-line caps, BA made a co-axil arm for there 6.5
