hi,
i am just recently taking car audio seriously with my next install, i had planned on running two diamond hex 6.5" mids in each door, but i scrapped that idea and decided to put a 6.5" and tweet in the kick panel and a 6.5" in the door.

the problem i have now is i bought the speakers already, the original plan had the two 6.5's just parrelled in the crossover, therefore playing the same freq.'s. will the new placement cause cancellation problems?

Would anyone suggest the i buy the separate crossover to make the setup a three way?
could i also get this setup by using the rear half of a 4channel amp on the mids in the doors and using the onboard crossover to cut the freq.'s?

any suggetions would be greatly appreiciated...

ps the system consits of...
head-sony cdx-660
front amp-phoenix 475ti
front stage-(2)diamond hex tweets, (4) hex 6.5" mids
sub amp-phoenix gold 400ti
sub-single xmax12

thanks

KC

If you parallel the 6.5s after the croosover you will change the crossover frequency and that will be bad. Having a 2 ohm load on the passive crossover will make the crossover frequency one octave lower. So if your tweeters are crossed over at 5k your mids will be crossed at 2.5k. I think your best bet is to buy the 3 way crossovers or use separate amp channels to the door mids.
Also if you have them playing the same frequencies your imaging will probably be off. The speakers in the kicks will provide the best imaging then the door speakers will probably pull the image down and to one side. Of course I could be wrong and it could sound fine, but I think running them 3 way would give the best results.

Agreed. Run your door speaks as woofers, or, if you can and want to, stick em in back for fill or whatever.

thanks guys,
i was thinking about doing it as a three way setup, which way i go all depends on if i think the 475 has enough power to run that xmax12.

thanks agian

I would run both from 60-70 or so and kill the doors at around 150-250 while the KPS kept going up to the tweets. THis shouldn't smear the image too much.

If you run into "acoustic cancellation", just tilt one of the offending speakers a couple of degrees, using a shim.
