Hi Wayne

We have a small shop here at PR and still use the old mics as the measuring system to test our cars and we have some problems when calibrating it

The owner calibrates the meter and when he pushes reset and start the meter reads 140, 145.7, and so on without burping any systen, we put the mic in my car and it jumps to 150 without doing nothing. We click start again and it jumps to 152 or 145, etc, so there's no consistency

So, what could it be?/

Could you explain me how to properly calibrate the old mics??

Thanks in advance [Wink]

Wayne, we calibrated the mics again today, following the procedure, but it didn't work, we connected the mics cables and the readings jumped to 145 in lane 1 and to 136 in lane 2 [Frown]

We did the calibration again and one lane went to XXX and the other to like 133

Could it be a damaged cable or microphone?? is there any way to fix it? If there's something damaged, what could it be??

later this week we're going to borrow another cable/mic to see if that helps

By the way DANN,

Start saving some money and buy you a new TERMLAB.USB system, that system is SOOOO much better and SOOO much cooler that you can't belive it before you have tested it. [Smile] [Cool]

The old system has some problems, yes... [Wink]

If the system appears to be working (except that the SPL values are incorrect), then the probable cause is that you have the incorrect MDF file selected or the K-factor in the MDF is incorrect.

In the hardware panel, make sure that you have the serial number for each mic associated with SPL Mic 1 and SPL Mic 2.

You should also verify that the soundcard that you are using is the one that shipped with the system. Over the years, we shipped 2 different soundcards. There was about a 12 dB difference in input gain between the two systems. If you are trying to piece two systems together, or if you are using someone else's mics, this could also be part of the problem.

We also shipped several versions of microphones. Once again, the gain varied by 10 dB or so.

If the system is working properly, you could adjust the K-factors so that the system reads properly when calibrating.

I had symilar problem... try using 12V battery instead of 110/12 adapter. Check for polarity!
